Spring is the perfect time to explore Washington DC! Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom, the Monuments are ready to explore and the weather is usually in full cooperation! On our Educational Adventures page of this website, we have some travel ideas for your Washington DC destinations, but here are two exciting options for your student groups.
THE FOLGER SHAKESPEARE LIBRARY
The Folger Shakespeare Library located on Capitol Hill is a world class research center on Shakespeare and on the early modern age in the West. It is home to the world's largest and finest collection of Shakespeare materials and other rare Renaissance books, manuscripts and works of art.
Many scholarly programs are available including plays, concerts, literary readings and exhibitions. Special programs are available for student and teachers to encourage learning and art appreciation.
Celebrating their 75th anniversary, the Folger Shakespeare Library continues to advance knowledge and the arts.
THE MARIAN KOSHLAND SCIENCE MUSEUM OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
This unique museum focuses on science behind the headlines. Featured exhibits and events target current events and scientific discoveries. Two of their featured exhibits, Global Warming and Infectious Disease exhibits are designed for middle and high school students and adhere to the National Academies' National Science Education Standards.
Structured field trips are available with specific focuses. Students divide into teams to explore the exhibits and then participate in a peer teaching exercise that culminates in a whole class discussion.
